It’s been a tough few months since I put forward the idea to Jaime Milner of doing a special poster to celebrate the tenth Anniversary of the Con. Jaime is a lovely guy but he is very busy and communication has always been an issue…I can safely say that actually pulling this off was a miracle. But four months later, and having clocked nearly 300 hours I finally made it. In no small part to my partner who had to help me towards the end.
After getting up at stupid o’clock and a harrowing drive to Wales, we arrived at the Con on Friday to set up…exhausted after a five hour drive. All I wanted to do was unload the truck and go to my hotel to relax. I didn’t expect it to be plain sailing, and I wasn’t disappointed! Everyone was running around like headless chickens trying to finish off for the big opening. After a lot of coming backwards and forwards and a lot of shrugs, blank looks and upward facing palms we managed to secure a corner of the venue. No picture with my name, no bells, no whistles. But I had anticipated that and printed out a few signs. In the end we were all set up and ready for a drink.
Saturday started off slow but quickly picked up.., what can I say, it wasn’t what I expected but at least we covered costs and had a great time.
Sunday was an amazing day. All the guests attending the show signed the original painting with a view to holding a charity auction further down the line. Later on a group of us went out for dinner and then drinks back at the hotel, where I totally killed “La Bamba ” (literally). I mean I murdered it. There is a video. I will never watch…
